DARCY
Lizzy, I love you. I love you. I hope you don't mind me saying it so
often.
LIZZY
Well, it is getting rather tedious, Mr. Darcy.
DARCY
Oh Lizzy, you weren't kidding about the teasing.
LIZZY
Oh, I love teasing you. I love the way you smile when
I do. Last year I could never imagine that your face could even
form such a smile.
DARCY
I know. My public face is rather daunting, I'm told.
LIZZY
Oh? And who told you that, other than me?
DARCY
Well, Georgiana for one. She is so excited by our engagement.
She almost jumped on top of me when she arrived.
LIZZY
I can't believe how well she gets along with Mary and Kitty. I hope
they're not too bad an influence on her.
DARCY
Oh, I wouldn't worry. She could use some time with girls her own age.
It's Mary and Kitty you'll have to worry about. By the way, when are
you going to start calling me Fitzwilliam?
LIZZY
Oh, your Christian name will take some getting used to, my dear.
DARCY
I want to watch your lips move while they say it.
LIZZY
Wouldn't Willy be simpler?
DARCY
Lizzy, I want to nibble on your lips while they enunciate my
syllables.
LIZZY
Well, Mr. Darcy, you're welcome to nibble on my lips any time you
care to.
DARCY
All right then...
LIZZY
Oh, but first, Mr. Darcy, we must talk about our upcoming visit to
the Gardiners. I believe you owe a debt of gratitude to my aunt.
DARCY
I certainly do. And I owe your uncle a fishing lesson.
LIZZY
A fishing lesson? ...Apparently my nieces and nephews want you to
build them a whirligig. Why would they ask for such a thing? You
must've had quite a time with them last August.
DARCY
Yes, the children are wonderful. But a whirligig? Good heavens. I'll
need Bingley's help for that.
