Darcy's valet stops at the Lambton Inn for an ale
SNELGROVE
Lucy, my dear. How's about a quick one before I have to get on up to the big house.
LUCY
Heavens, no. Just finish your beer, luv. No time tonight.
SNELGROVE
No time for old Snelly?
LUCY
What's your hurry? Your master right behind?
SNELGROVE
No. He's here tomorrow I expect.
LUCY
Tomorrow? I just told some guests that the house was empty. They wanted the grand tour.
SNELGROVE
Well, Mrs. Reynolds will turn them away.
LUCY
Not many visitors comin' this season I'm told.
SNELGROVE
Just as well. My master's spending the whole summer at home this year.
LUCY
What? Hertfordshire's not fine enough for 'im?
SNELGROVE
Oh, you remembered about Hertfordshire. I think he found it a bit too interesting, that's the problem.
LUCY
Well, I'll 'ave to tell these Gard'ners and their Lizzy that the house is off.
SNELGROVE
Yes. That'd be best.
LUCY
Now finish that beer and be off. I got beds to turn down.
SNELGROVE
All right then. ...There. All done.
LUCY
I might have a spare hour tomorrow, Snelly.
SNELGROVE
Wait, did you say "Lizzy"? And the Gardiners?
LUCY
Sure did. They're touring the area. Used to live here.
SNELGROVE
In Lambton?
LUCY
'deed.
SNELGROVE
Oh. Coincidence then.
LUCY
Now, look here, luv. Robbie's goin' to come over and have you settle up your bill from last time. Better skedaddle right quick.
SNELGROVE
Well, perhaps I will settle it up, then.
LUCY
Oh, a rich uncle died, did 'e.
SNELGROVE
Well, my master is quite generous once in a while, you know.
LUCY
Anything there for me, luv?
SNELGROVE
Well, there might've been, my dear, if you hadn't been so busy tonight.
LUCY
Rotter.
SNELGROVE
I'm off then. Remember to tell those people that the house is closed.
LUCY
Will do, luv. That Miss Bennet'll be relieved. I could tell she didn't want --
SNELGROVE
Make sure to stay out of trouble, Lucy.
LUCY
Always do.
SNELGROVE
Wait. Did you say "Bennet"?
